AlertCentre 2.03 Adds Value for all Toolkit users with 24x7 Monitoring

Fairfax, VA – January 24, 2005: MKS Inc. (MKS) (TSE:MKX) announced today AlertCentre™ 2.03, the latest version of its advanced, agentless monitoring solution for Windows, providing powerful availability monitoring of critical resources such as websites, databases, and email servers while substantially reducing system management costs. Previously priced at $5,000, AlertCentre is now available to all MKS Toolkit users as a free add-on.

Pricing and Availability: The AlertCentre Add-On is free. It requires any MKS Toolkit Product (v8.7 patch 3 or greater) in order to run and a second copy of MKS Toolkit is needed in order to support monitoring redundancy from a second PC. MKS Toolkit Quick Tips

Q: Do MKS Toolkit products contain any third party source code?
A: At MKS, we understand how important it is to protect intellectual property. MKS Toolkit source and binary code consists primarily of MKS-proprietary code but also contains a small amount of code licensed from other sources (i.e., third party software). All embedded third party software is appropriately licensed by MKS in a manner which allows that code to be used in accordance with the standard MKS License Agreement.

However, it is important to note that some public domain source and binary code (sometimes referred to as "Open Source") which has license terms that differ from the MKS License Agreement can be found in the optionally installed resource kit or copied from samples provided on the MKS Toolkit product CD. This code is freely available on the Internet and is provided on our distribution media for convenience (again, it is not installed as part of the standard MKS Toolkit installation process to prevent accidental use or distribution). Some Open Source License terms could jeopardize your intellectual property (for example all GPL and LGPL code). All such public domain code is appropriately labeled in both the resource kit and in the samples. It is the responsibility of the customer to read and adhere to the license terms of this code. The License terms for this code are always included in the source code files provided.

Q: I am trying to patch MKS Toolkit on Windows x64 Edition and it's failing with an error. How can I install an MKS Toolkit patch on this system?
A: This problem is caused by a bug in the version of Windows Installer that is included with build 1218 of the Windows x64 Edition operating systems. Newer versions of these operating systems, such as build 1247, have a fix for this bug. For this reason, moving to a newer version of the operating system will allow you to install a patch for MKS Toolkit.

Another solution is to do an administrative install and apply the patch to the resulting administrative image. Then install MKS Toolkit from the patched administrative image.
